KOMPAS.com - Penggemar game lawas, khususnya konsol PlayStation 1 (PS1) tentu tidak asing dengan teriakan "Pepsimaan!" yang menjadi pembuka game ini.

Pepsiman memang menjadi salah satu game ikonik di konsol PS1. Selain karakternya yang unik, gameplay Pepsiman juga sederhana, yaitu berlari sampai tujuan sambil menghindari sejumlah rintangan.

Pepsiman menjadi game yang hanya dirilis untuk PS1. Tidak ada pengembangan atau lanjutan dari game tersebut di konsol-konsel generasi berikutnya.

Namun, baru-baru ini Pepsiman muncul dengan tampilan yang lebih segar dalam sebuah video di kanal YouTube Banana Pictures.

Tentu saja Pepsiman yang muncul kali ini adalah hasil buatan dan modifikasi para penggemar, bukan berasal dari KID selaku pengembang game Pepsiman.

Dalam video tersebut Pepsiman tampil dengan sentuhan teknologi pencahayaan Ray Tracing yang menjadi salah satu fitur unggulan dari konsol PlayStation 5 (PS5).

Video tersebut merupakan karya dari seorang pengembang mesin game (game engine) Unity 3D dari forum Reddit bernama gamerjv.

Sebagai informasi, Ray Tracing merupakan teknik rendering 3D untuk menampilkan refleksi, cahaya, dan efek sinematis dalam game. Sehingga, tampilan game bisa terlihat semakin mirip dengan dunia nyata.

Karakter dan sejumlah obyek dalam game terlihat lebih nyata. Selain itu, refleksi bayangan karakter, mobil, dan berbagai obyek lainnya juga tampak lebih natural.

Kendati demikian, Pepsiman versi Ray Tracing ini hanya sebatas video untuk mendemonstrasikan teknologi milik mesin game Unity 3D sebagaimana dirangkum KompasTekno dari PurePlaystation, Rabu (17/2/2021).
